Excellent overview of a critical phase of the Revolution

Dr.Walker has deftly melded classical military history with contemporary social history to form an excellent interpretation of the war in the Carolinas backcountry. While this period of the war has been given treatment in the past, Walker's infusion of social forces area tensions into the narrative provides an added and greatly needed addition to the literature. Whether as an introduction to the Revolution in the south, or for further in-depth study of these battles as part of the larger campaign, this book is a very worthy selection.

This book covers the two battles in a concise form. There is enough detail for one to more fully the enormity of the imprortance of these two battles and their impact on history in a largely forgotten theater of the Revolutionary War.

Not what the title suggests

This is much more about the south in the revolution and not the backcountry. In fact it is mostly about south Carolina. Lots of stuff about the South in general but not so much on y back country. She ignores a lot of scholarship @ the back country including Hoffman, Wayne Lee, Fischer. Documents section at the end seems awkwardly throw in with no guidance as to how to use it.
