About the Author
Sharon Graham Niederhaus completed her master's thesis at Stanford University on multigenerational living arrangements. A credentialed K–12 teacher, she has written numerous articles in educational journals and was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in San Mateo County, California, for her community-building work.

John L. Graham is professor emeritus of business at the Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. His previous books on consumer behavior and negotiation have been published in several languages in countries around the world.

Helpful, but not exactly what I was looking for.

I was hoping to find more of a step by step guide to multigenerational living. This book contained some good real life examples and stories in interview form. It was also targeted toward older people who are thinking about living situations to make their retirement and old age easier. I personally am 29 and looking at multigenerational living as a preferred lifestyle choice preference, not out of necessity. I would have liked to find lists of things to consider or discuss when living together. This book shared many different experiences which was helpful, but from the title, I expected it to be more of an actual guide. Regardless, I found it helpful to hear about what worked for other people.

Light and refreshing romance

What it's about: Lyssa gets offered a job at a modelling agency. Hoping to earn some extra money for her family, she has to hide her new job, along with her new love interest from the same family she is trying to help.

What I thought: Head over High Heels is the story of the life we wish we all had. Lyssa gets offered a modelling contract in the middle of a clothes store, but has her reservations. She needs to focus on her studies so she can get into Medicine. However her autistic brother needs proper full-time care from someone other than her mother, but her family just can't afford it. So Lyssa is plunged into a strange new world, one where she will have everything at her feet. She lands a killer contract, one that pays more than enough to give her family what they need. Then of course, she meets Dan. Stuck-up and full of himself at first, he realises Lyssa is unlike all the other models he's come across. She has a purpose, and she's real. Lyssa and Dan learn about each other and from each other, ending in life changes for the better.
This book is cute, with a swoony teen romance that's light and easy to read. Super refreshing.

The Good: Dan is the cutest thing out. Got to have good man-candy.

The Bad: I know she wanted to do what was best, but I mean, come on. Most of her changing her mind gave me whiplash.

Head Over High Heels by Kate Forster has both from the beginning of a blooming romance between main characters Lyssa and Dan to the edginess of Lyssa ending up homeless but with a well-paying job. There is something for everyone in Kate Forster's new teen novel.
Head over High Heels takes us into the life of immigrant Lyssa who has moved to Australia with her family to get a better life, Lyssa has dreamed of becoming a doctor but for someone in her position - the finances are not just there. Out shopping with her friend one day, Lyssa is spotted by Yolanda - a modelling agent who sees great promise in Lyssa and big things. Lyssa is at first reluctant but then when she sees the price tag of modelling, she changes her mind as it races to what she can provide for her family. But will her conservative family see i that way or will they feel ashamed and horrified with their daughter to the point that she may end up homeless?
Head over High Heels is not just one girl's plight to finding romance and true love but also one girl's journey on how she overcame her differences - personal and cultural to become the one thing she could do in order to save and help her family.

If you only have time or money to one introductory book on IP and Telecom for Broadcast is the one to choose

I've purchased and perused every book on the convergence of IP and Broadcast. As with other technical texts in many cases purchased and have mostly skimmed looking for answers to questions which remain unaddressed. My major criticism of many of these technical books is the somewhat antiquated technical writing style which requires the reader to re-read an obtuse passage to understand a fairly simple concept . In too many cases the author is restating the obvious and after a few chapters you realize that you're wasting your time. Either the content is historical, and therefore of value only as a reference.

Huffman's book is written like a colleague who shares with you his life time of transitional, evolutionary experience over a series of informal dinners. You feel as if you have been fortunate enough to have been invited to Fred's dinner in which there is plenty to chew on with each course of the meal.

The reader is left only wishing that the chapters could be hyperlinked to a Mr. Huffmans's weblog in which each evolutionary development can be updated daily with comments and contributions of his peers.

If you're in this field and only have time or money to buy a few books on this topic, I highly recommend you invest in "Practical IP and Telecom".

But after a brief initial foray into the book, I found that I was ill-informed (and perhaps intentionally misinformed). As my reading progressed I was left with the inescapable conclusion that Palestine is the locale of one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated civil rights struggles of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. a one-sided look at a many-sided region

This book does indeed include essays written by Jews, Christians and Muslims. Do not, however, assume from this that it is in any sense objective or that it examines the Middle East from all sides. This is a book in which Jewish, Christian and Muslim critics of Israel all have a chance to write about everything that they see as being wrong with Israel. No one who has been following the Middle East is in any danger of learning anything new. Those who are new to the issue are, however, likely to be puzzled by the divergence between the picture presented here and reality as we know it.
It is, after all, in the territory controlled by the Palestinian Authority that editors of opposition newspapers are kneecapped, their printing presses smashed. It is in the PA-controlled territories that people are are tried and sentenced without benefit of counsel and that individuals suspected of sympathy with Israel are routinely murdered by vigilante gangs. It is in Palestinian schools that children are taught to become suicide bombers. And Palestinian television that broadcasts racist canards about Jews.
Meanwhile it is in Israel that Muslims vote and elect representatives to Parliament. In Israel that Muslim women are equal to Muslim men before the courts.
In Israel there is a free press, an independent judiciary, and a school system that makes real efforts to teach tolerance.
That said, Israel is no more perfect thatn any other country. If you want to see all of the warts, this is your book.
Do be careful, however, about accepting the facts as presented. Whole sections would have to be shelved in the fiction section of an honest library.

This tells it like it is

As a frequent traveller to Israel/Palestine and having met most of the authors of the essays collected, I am amazed at how well each from each writer's perspective have represented reality as I have come to understand the reality on the ground.
Israel's safety and a safe place for Jews is of prime importance. But safety cannot come without an equal passion for justice. Pithily put: Sow Justice, Reap Security.
It is important that the voices represented in this collection be heard. The daily headlines tell part of the story. This is another part and one that makes the story more complete.

About the Author

John Joseph (J.J.) Coughlin is currently vice president of law enforcement services for LoJack Supply Chain Integrity (SCI). He is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing security processes, procedures, and investigations for SCI members. J.J. also works closely with law enforcement officers in deployment of LoJack In-Transit Service to support covert surveillance, dispatch, and recovery operations and investigations. He serves as the director of the Supply Chain Information Sharing and Analysis Center and supervises the collection, analysis, and dissemination of cargo theft and crime data. He is the chairman of the Southwest Transportation Security Council, which he founded to facilitate the sharing of information and networking with law enforcement and private industry. He has been a driving force behind the expansion of regional security councils and promoting information sharing by regional councils, law enforcement, and private industry.

Rock solid read for logistics and logistics security professionals

Mr. Coughlin wrote this book from the heart. He has a passion for cargo security and he tells sordid details here, not just the surface story. This kind of in-depth treatise is what you get from an industry insider and champion, who obviously earned his knowledge first hand. If you are in any way responsible for cargo transport - or would be impacted by cargo loss - this book is eye opening.

These Gregor Demarkian mysteries are hidden gems

Jane Haddam has the nack of making you think when reading the Gregor Demarkian mysteries. I love the information on Armenia and Armenian-Americans; the local of Cavanaugh Street in Philadelphia is well drawn and made so intriguing that I would love to find and eat at the Ararat Cafe. And the mysteries are so well done; I never feel cheated by a twist or switch that isn't part of the logic of the crime. I read all of her stuff - even the books (too few) she has written under her pen name of Orania Papazoglou that are takeoffs on romance writing. Those in particular demonstrate her creative skills at humor; all of her characters - no matter the genre- are well developed and believable.

Definite slow starter....

This was my first Jane Haddam mystery and at this point, it's debatable if I will seek to read another one. The first 40 percent of the novel was introduction of the various characters and getting the plot off the ground, so it was a definite slow starter. There were subplots (i.e., Dessa Carter's father with Alheimzer's, Magda Hale's aging body that she has neglected) that had absolutely nothing to do with the mainstream plot. Since this novel took place in New Haven,CT, the author struggled trying to involve the regular Gregor Demarkian series' characters back in Philadelphia (i.e., Bennis Hannaford, Father Tibor, Donna Moradanyan).
