If you only have time or money to one introductory book on IP and Telecom for Broadcast is the one to choose

I've purchased and perused every book on the convergence of IP and Broadcast. As with other technical texts in many cases purchased and have mostly skimmed looking for answers to questions which remain unaddressed. My major criticism of many of these technical books is the somewhat antiquated technical writing style which requires the reader to re-read an obtuse passage to understand a fairly simple concept . In too many cases the author is restating the obvious and after a few chapters you realize that you're wasting your time. Either the content is historical, and therefore of value only as a reference.
Huffman's book is written like a colleague who shares with you his life time of transitional, evolutionary experience over a series of informal dinners. You feel as if you have been fortunate enough to have been invited to Fred's dinner in which there is plenty to chew on with each course of the meal.
The reader is left only wishing that the chapters could be hyperlinked to a Mr. Huffmans's weblog in which each evolutionary development can be updated daily with comments and contributions of his peers.
If you're in this field and only have time or money to buy a few books on this topic, I highly recommend you invest in "Practical IP and Telecom".
