The Missing Link

Where did coaching come from? What were its influences, and its roots?

No one has ever really considered this before, much less documented it.

In this well-written and highly informative book, Leni Wildflower demonstrates considerable scholarship (and knowledge in the field) to answer these questions.

If you are a coach, or you received coaching, this will be of more than passing interest to you. And face it -- these days, especially if you have a corporate job, just about everyone receives coaching of one kind or another.

This is an excellent book.

Disclosure: I know the author personally, and was one of her students at Fielding Graduate University's "Evidence Based Coaching" program. From my own experience, I can say with certainty that Leni is a terrific scholar, teacher, and practitioner.

My only regret was that in the year-long program, I didn't learn 90% of what I learned in the book!

But that may be my fault entirely. I spent most of my time arguing with just about everything Leni had to say. She was very patient and quite a good debater, respectfully countering my points (and teaching me a lot about good coaching in the process!).

My approach to coaching requires a lot more instruction and command-and-control tactics than the type of coaching Leni teaches. Yet I freely admit I have moved much closer to the "Leni" side of the profession after taking the Fielding program, and after reading her book.

Well worth it. I highly recommend this book!

Great Book for Anyone Remotely Interested in Coaching

I am currently a coaching student and bought this book with the idea that I would use this in conjunction with my other textbooks, just another resource. I wasn't necessarily looking forward to opening it, expecting it to read like a textbook. So over Christmas break, at the in-laws, when I needed to look busy so I wouldn't have to help in the kitchen, I cracked this book open and immediately found I was sucked in exploring these characters that helped contribute to what coaching is today. It read more like a story where I was enjoying reading about each individual, the family life they came from (some very unpleasant) and how that brought them to do the great work they did. I was fascinated by the practices and experiments that occurred that gave us great things such as CBT, positive psychology, and a dozen other topics. Great book and I highly recommend.

Rather expensive considering the overall quality

About the texte itself :

- A book on this subject was really missing (as far as I know), so I think it can really useful for people interested in this subject.
- It's too bad for a source book that there isn't the Chinese version of the translated texts to compare with (it would be necessary if one intended to use this for scientific purpose).
- titles should always be given in English and Chinese (there is a list of "principal source references" at the end, though, that gives the Chinese titles), for example in the table of contents.

About the book :

- The illustration reproduced are in surprisingly poor quality.
- Good cover, though (very resistant and rather good looking).

About the Author

Armand de Mestral is a specialist in international trade and investment law and comparative federalism. Teaching at McGill Faculty of Law since 1976, Professor de Mestral is also an arbitrator and panelist for the WTO, CUFTA, NAFTA, international commercial arbitration. He is co-author of International Law and The Canadian Law and Practice of International Trade.

 

Céline Lévesque is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, of the University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on international investment law. In 2008-2009, she was a Scholar-in-Residence at the Trade Law Bureau of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.

In the dressing room, Nancy finds out that rival singers Rosacrucia Alba, the hot new soprano, and Marta Willentz, an older member of the company, have been involved in a few scary situations. As rehearsals continue and the threat to these singers increases, Nancy scrambles to determine why someone is trying to ensure that only one singer will be the star of these shows.

Good or not?

I can`t decide! this book is good and this book is bad! I think this book is moor like a file then a Nancy Drew Mystery. I think that if we wanted a file we could get a file. But, I have to say that this book really is quite good! ( sigh) I guess this book is a reall mix! I still recamend this! I hope you enjoy!

Fast, Flirty & Fun!

This was fast, flirty and fun.

If you haven't read Where I Belong or it's companion, A Long Way From You, then you probably will be lost. I was a little a lost myself because I kept wondering who this Benson dude was and where in the world was my Bubby?! Last I'd read, he and Corrine were about to ride off into the Broken Spoke sunset where they would live happily ever after (even if only in my imagination). But apparently not.

Corrine is back in NYC and she has big plans for her last night before she heads off to college. Plans that do not involve anyone else's .02 and especially not a chance run-in with Bubby. But one tinkle break leads to another and before she knows it, Corrine comes face to face with the guy she thought was in her future, not her past.

Over the course of the story, we find out exactly what happened between Bubby and Corrine and two things jumped out at me. 1) This was really too short. And by short, I mean, I WANTED MORE BUBBY! and 2) For being teens, they sure did have easy access to alcohol in public places. Not once did they get questioned or carded.

Overall, I think this was a good addition to the books. It's a clean read which was also refreshing, and fans of Bubbine will enjoy it.

I have loved the series! I cannot wait to see if this series will continue. I cannot wait to pass these books along to my nieces! I love the author she keeps things going.

A perfect send off for our heroine, Corrinne

For anyone out there who loved A Long Way From You or Where I Belong, this is the perfect "goodbye" to those beloved characters. Though it is bittersweet to know that we won't see Corrinne, Kitsy, Waverly or Bubby again, this is a fabulous last night with them. Set over the course of Corrinne's last night in New York City before departing for college, which is planned to the minute of course, the reader feels transported to many of Manhattan's most magical spots.

It feels a bit like a montage from a favorite television show, and it is PERFECT. Of course the evening has some surprises in store for Corrinne, but A Long Way from You and Where I Belong are proof that Corrinne definitely needs to be shown the light by her friends and loved ones, and The Art of Goodbye continues that sweet pattern.

Gwendolyn Heasley has mastered the extremely difficult "Art of Goodbye" with this one. I am already feeling nostalgic for Broken Spoke and Morton Square!
