About the Author
Paul Foster is Lecturer in New Testament Literature, Language, and Theology, and Sara Parvis is Lecturer in Patristics, at the University of Edinburgh. Together they edited Justin Martyr and His Worlds (Fortress Press, 2007).

Good way to learn more about Early Church History and Theology

Whilst I knew a little of Irenaeus prior to reading this book, I was keen to learn more - and this book did not disappoint.
It is a collection of essays by different Authors, and covering different aspects of the Life, Writings and Theology of Irenaeus. I found all the articles to be quite relevant and easy enough to read (though some are dealing with complex issues that I have much to learn about). To put it simply I learnt a lot and would be keen to read more from these authors.
I would recommend this to any who had an interest in Early Church History / Theology - and I think it is of value for all Christians to learn more about Irenaeus.

A good documentary of an important Christian philosopher.

This book strives to place Iranaeus in the context of his time without actually passing judgement on him or his effect on the later development of Christianity, which is no small feat given that this is the guy who is probably most responsible for saddling Christianity with the idea of Original Sin, and who is the foremost example of an arrogant, sarcastic polemicist to exist perhaps even until 20th century America. If one wants to try to understand just what was going on during the early development of Christianity (after the apostolic era), this book is an excellent anchor point.
