Engrossing

The abuse early in the story made me very uncomfortable, but it created understanding and compassion for the adult character - truly a heroine who, ultimately, takes control of her life. Although there was a bit too much detail for my taste at times, I found this to be an engrossing read. I'd definitely recommend it.

not quite as good as Deceptions

Thirty years ago a friend was reading Deceptions and the premise of that book intrigued me. I loved it and have since read it a few times. It's sequel, A Tangled Web, was good but it was clear the authors had not planned to write a sequel. After reading the first book, long before the sequel came out, I read two other of their books, but I found them formulaic. After those and until reading this book I had only read the Deceptions sequel, and I only read that because I wondered how they could pull it off. All that to say that this book was much more like what I had hoped to read after Deceptions. After I got through the first few chapters with the backstory of each character, the story really began to grip me. I couldn't figure out where they were going with the palimony suit between Dora and Josh until they wrote that Anne saw a deep sadness in Josh's eyes. As usual these authors found a unique story line and followed it along to some interesting, and some unexpected endings.

As with their other books it was hard to put down!! I could hardly wait to finish and then was sorry to leave the wonderful characters behind!
