The country would achieve Kennedy's goal of a manned moon mission, and the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 finally guaranteed minorities their civil rights and restored equality, ensuring that the country "would live out the true meaning of its creed." But the idealism and optimism of the decade was quickly shattered, starting with Kennedy's assassination in 1963.
Robert Francis Kennedy (1925-1968) was the quintessential middle brother among the Kennedys, eclipsed in life while working in his brother John's administration, eclipsed in death both by his older brother's assassination and his younger brother's long, influential career in the Senate as a liberal lion. And yet, the politics of the 1960s and the ultimate legacy of the Kennedys, including the "Kennedy Curse", would have been incomplete without Bobby's place in the narrative.
Ted may not have been the center of attention in the Kennedy family then or now, but he had the same charisma and skills of his older brothers, as well as the same controversial vices. And as fate would have it, Ted's political legacy may have eclipsed them all. His brothers were victims of two of the country's most tragic assassinations, two other siblings died in plane crashes, and he would have to eulogize nephews. But Ted had the extra gift of length of years, surviving his encounter with the "Kennedy Curse", a 1964 plane crash that severely injured and nearly killed him.

This is Three Books in One. The Videos are a Nice Feature that can Rope the Kids into a Fun, Educational Experience

This nonfiction book is targeted to kids or to adults who wish to spend some quality time with their children or grandchildren using a smart phone or a tablet computer. Let’s face it, to reach kids these days, it simply will not do to work so hard to pry them away from their electronic media and then expect them to enjoy you reading to them using some old book. Yes, when you can’t beat ‘em, you can join them in their natural habitat.
What was the Amazon Rank on the date this review was published? 2,466,814.
Questions that might come to mind are: Will this book actually teach me something I didn't already know by surfing the internet? For all intents and purposes, yes. At least it will be an easier, smoother experience and can be controlled.
Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first? Yes, but it likely will spur you and the kids on to other terrific, quick, educational, fun reads. That is perhaps its greatest value.
Are there other books by this author that might also be helpful? Charles River Editors has more than 1,000 inexpensive books posted at Amazone.com and a few at audible.com, my favorite source for audiobooks since 2002.
Are there a lot of typos/misspellings, grammatical errors or other editing failures? I didn’t detect any.
You could say this is three books in one. One book each covering President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.
This is a well-written and well-edited book that deals with most of the important observations and issues affecting each man, plus a bit of history of the Kennedy family and of Joseph, the eldest brother who died at age 29 while on a mission during World War II.
What sort of language does this writer use to amplify the points made? Straight forward, English, with neither bias nor prejudice. In other words, it is straight reporting.
Is this better to read, or is it better to listen to? Since it contains video, I don’t think there would be any special advantage for it to be available as an audiobook, but for some, especially those unable to read for one reason or another, audio would be a nice move.
I was but a third grade student when JFK was shot, so I have little memory of him except for the assassination and, one minor point. My family was camping one summer, possibly 1962 or 1963, at Big Bear in California’s San Bernardino Mountains. While Dad was driving, looking for a campsite I think, we saw a small shop or store with a sign posted. The sign read, as I recall, Closed Until That Catholic Traitor Kennedy is Removed From Office. I recollected Mom’s shock that somebody could be so hateful.
I recall a bit more about Robert. I criticized Mom for becoming a volunteer in his 1968 campaign, teling her, “You know he’s just going to get shot.” Only years later would I come to realize how wrong I was about the country’s need for RFK and how much we lost by his assassination. While I doubt Sirhan Sirhan had assistance, I wish he had been prevented from so hurting our nation.
Ted Kennedy, though, I have many memories of. I know for certain, through a shipmate who’s uncle was Mayor Bradley in Los Angeles that Ted had chosen not to challenge Carter. Then, news leaked that Carter had told someone that he would kick Kennedy’s &$$ if Ted entered the race. I phoned my contact and learned that Ted Kennedy was reconsidering. Might have been a nice touch to have included this tidbit in the book, but, probably, nobody would have cared to know.
I also was a volunteer in the 1980 campaign for Kennedy. Even worked for a few days with a nephew of his, a 19-year-old named William Kennedy Smith, in New Hampshire. Working in Maine, I even met Ted one weekend, while I was escorting some senior citizens to caucus for him. I was stunned at how much Ted looked like my own father, save for my father being bald and just a little older than Ted Kennedy.
Okay, I did include a little of my life into this review. If that bothers you, please accept my apology. Regarding An Interactive Biography of the Kennedy Brothers, though, this is a remarkable, if all too brief, history that young and old should find interesting and educational. With the included video clips, it should also entertain youngsters while roping them into an educational experience. A Win-Win.
I feel quite fortunate to have found this booklet available while it was a free download, but would have willingly parted with the small asking price if I had not been so fortunate.
