"High school history teacher Wood illuminates the fascinating but little-known history of the Holocaust in Yugoslavia during WWII in this thoroughly researched volume that draws from previously published works and interviews, as well as personal interviews. Wood provides a brief overview of this nation of mixed nationalities and ethnic groups in the decades prior to the war, as well as discussing Serbian and Croatian politics--including the Croatian Revolutionary Movement (the Ustasha) and its leader, Ante Pavelic. About the Author
Ben Wood attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and received a graduate degree in 1987 from the London School of Economics and Political Science for his studies in International and Comparative Politics. He has been published in World War II Magazine, History Magazine and Halcyon a journal of the Humanities. He is a member of the Organization of American Historians and teaches high school history.

Interesting perspective of WWII, Croatian Jews & the Italian Army

Wood explores some little known facts about the WWII Holocaust including the Croatian Jews and the deadly Ustasha of Croatia. We don't usually read too much about the Italian Army's role in WWII, and this book gives the reader a different perspective. Well written and researched.

The book was confronting, in that both nations were on the side of the Nazis, yet Italy had the guts to do what Croatia did not,namely saving Croatians. Something the Croatians should have done for their own.

Very Insightful

Not only is Wood's account of the Italian Army's efforts to save Jewish lives well reserched, it also gives excellent information about World War 2 from many perspectives. The evil facist regime of Germany and their snooty attitudes towards the rest of the world. Hitler's Comments about meeting the Arab leader was just priceless. It shows you how an evil, insane yet very organized methodical man like Hitler caused such a big commotion. The Italians just wanted power and did not care to wipe out minorities.
The fact that many Italians switched ssides during the war shows you the varying politics involved. Romania had the ssame attitude to a lesser degree. Just amazing how so much detail was involved to combat the evil Hitler led Axis. I like the personaliteis even on the Allies sides and the relations between Americans and British.
An excellent read that will keep you thinking about each countries part in a critical time in World History.
